n. 1. a change in the position or direction of the axes of a coordinate system without changing their relative angles. 2. an equivalent change in an expression resulting from the uniform substitution of one set of variables for another.
3a. a mapping between two spaces, especially one in which the expression for the value is uniformly derived from that for its argument. See function.
