n. 1a. one of the two opposite directions measured on a directed line, the sign of the measure as contrasted with the magnitude of a vector, so that Math Image and Math Image have opposite sense but the same direction. See also polarity.
b. one of the two opposite directions of rotation, that is, either clockwise or anticlockwise. 2. (Logic) a. the import of an expression as contrasted with its referent. Thus the morning star and the evening star have the same reference, Venus, but different senses.
b. the property of an expression by virtue of which its referent is determined.
