adj. 1. (of a mathematical system) elementarily equivalent, but not isomorphic, to the usual model for a given set of axioms; for example, the non-standard real numbers have infinitesimal elements. 2. (of an element of the non-standard real numbers) not corresponding to an element of the ordinary real numbers; for example, every infinitesimal and every infinite number is non-standard.
