
latus rectum,
n. (pl. latera recta) a chord that passes through the focus, and is perpendicular to the major axis, of a conic. The figure shows one of the latera recta of an ellipse and a hyperbola, and the latus rectum of a parabola, all of which share a vertex, where E, H, and P are foci of the respective conics.
