n. an infinite trigonometric series of the form where a₀, a₁, b₁, a₂, b₂, etc. are the Fourier coefficients. They are used, especially in mathematical physics, to represent or approximate to any single-valued periodic function by assigning suitable values to the coefficients. See also Dirichlet's condition.
