n. a sequence of numbers constructed as the differences between the successive terms of a given sequence. Higher-order differences of a sequence {x_k} are defined recursively. Thus the m^th forward difference sequence at x_k is given by where Δ⁰x_k = x_k. Then, for example, in accord with Pascal's triangle. Backward and central differences are similarly defined.
