Clairaut's form,
n. a first-order ordinary or partial differential equation

where f is a differentiable function. If n > 1, the equation has the complete solution
z = Σi ai xi + f (a1, a2,..., an),
where a1, a2,..., an are arbitrary constants; the general solution for n = 1 has the same form. The equation may also have a singular solution or a solution that is not obtainable from the complete solution.
