MathResources' Author Wins Two Prestigious Math Awards in the Same Year.

Saint Louis, Missouri—April 26, 2006- MathResources is proud to announce that Carey Bolster has been awarded both the Glenn Gilbert Award from the National Council for Supervisor’s of Mathematics (NCSM) and the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics’ (NCTM) Lifetime Achievement Award. These awards recognize Carey’s outstanding contribution to the field of mathematics education over the past 30 years. Carey is the first math educator to be honored with both of these distinguished awards in the same year. The awards were presented at the NCSM and the NCTM Annual meetings being held in St. Louis, MO.

Interactive School Mathematics (ISM) is being built by MathResources but Carey has played an instrumental role in designing the curriculum and assembling an outstanding team of authors. This team is now authoring ISM, a completely digital middle school math curriculum solution.

"It is not surprising that Carey would be honored with both of these awards" says Ron Fitzgerald, President of MathResources. "When we first started looking for somebody to help create a blueprint for ISM, everyone we spoke with recommended Carey. After speaking with Carey it became evident that his knowledge and understanding of mathematics education; his gift for bringing people together; his interest and eagerness to integrate technology into the math curriculum would be the springboard from which ISM would be launched.

Fitzgerald points to ISM's talented and experienced editorial team as the most direct evidence of Bolster's significant impact upon the project. Led by Bill Masalski, the Editor of NCTM’s 2005 Yearbook Technology-Supported Mathematics Learning Environments, ISM’s author team includes many well-known math educators from within the NCSM and NCTM community.

Linda Gojak, President of NCSM, Kay Gilliland, Past President of NCSM, Terri Belcher, Executive Director of NCSM, David DeCoste, an NCTM Director, Patrick Vennebush, Program Manager for NCTM’s Illuminations web site and Anne Collins, president of the Association of Math Teachers of New England represents only a few of ISM’s outstanding authors.
