Find Everything You Need for
One-to-One Computing with Pocket PCs in the
Windows Mobile Solution Center (Booth #826)
at NECC
MathResources, Microsoft, HP, Data Harvest, Turning Technologies, GoKnow, and OtisEd Create Windows Mobile All-Star Team
MathResources will team up with HP, Microsoft and five other vendors to create the Windows Mobile Solutions Center (Booth # 826) at the National Education Computing Conference (NECC) taking place in Philadelphia from June 27th to 30th. The Windows Mobile Solution Center will showcase the tremendous potential that the Pocket PC has as an affordable one-to-one computing option. Teachers and administrators looking to find leading educational solutions for Windows Mobile will no longer have to wander the entire NECC exhibit hall to collect the information they need.
Visitors to the Windows Mobile Solutions Center will not find any laptops. In the Center, the vision of one-to-one mobile computing is strictly focused upon handheld computers. All of the vendor solutions on display in the Center will be presented using iPaq Pocket PCs provided by HP.
The Windows Mobile Solution Center was formed precisely because of the “laptop” only vision of one-to-one computing that until now has permeated K-12 education. Pocket PC solutions have been featured in occasional conference sessions and workshop but have never been prominently displayed in the exhibit hall at a major educational technology show. Because of this, many educators believe that Pocket PCs make great personal organizers but have very little application in the classroom.
By pooling their collective resources, the software and hardware vendors taking part in the Windows Mobile Solution Center will offer definitive proof that Pocket PC computers such as the iPaq can be used productively across an entire curriculum. MathResources will feature its graphing and calculating software, Portrait 4 and a new math dictionary it is developing for Pocket PCs alongside the following hardware and software vendors:
- HP- A range of iPaq Pocket PCs will be featured
- Microsoft- Windows Mobile 5.0 featuring Pocket Excel, Pocket Word & Pocket PowerPoint
- DataHarvest-Advanced mobile science probes for classroom and field use
- GoKnow- A complete Handheld Learning Environment (HLE) for managing student work
- Turning Technologies- Student Response System that uses PowerPoint and handheld computers
- OtisEd- A powerful Student Information System for school administrators
All of these vendors are featured in a special education section featured in the upcoming issue of Pocket PC Magazine that will be provided free to everybody stopping by the Windows Mobile Solution Center. Everybody visiting the Center can also enter to win an HP iPaq Pocket PC fully loaded with software from all of the participating vendors.
“I think people will be impressed by just how much you can do with a Pocket PC like the iPaq when it is running educational software designed specifically for classroom use,” says Ken Nauss, Director of Business Development for MathResources. “All of the developers taking part in the Windows Mobile Solution Center have years of experience. We really know how to take tiny handheld computers, which initially may appear to offer very limited possibilities, and turn them into incredibly powerful tools for teaching and learning,” Nauss adds.
